The
Carvolth family moved to Hatfield in 1934 and settled on a 40 acre farm off
of Orvilla Road. After years of hobby farming Bill decided with his father
to build a golf course on the family’s farm. This was an easy decision
as the land was difficult to get a quality yield of crops. Bill, an
avid golfer, had a hard time getting out to play the game he loved because
at the time there were so few public golf courses. The courses that were
around at the time would be backed up and made it difficult and frustrating
to get a round in. |

So
over three years Bill and his father worked tirelessly on the weekends and
whenever they had time to build Twin Woods Golf Course. In 1962 the
golf course opened as a 9 hole daily fee facility. In the early 1990’s
an automated irrigation system was installed for the greens and tees. |

Currently Betty Johnston, sister of Bill, manages the golf course as the
owner. She has the assistance of Certified Golf Course Superintendent
Tim Walker who manages the golf course grounds. Under his tenure at
Twin Woods the golf course has transformed into a great experience with
consistent playability and his staff is continually improving the golf
course. Tim received his Certified Golf Course Superintendent designation
by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America in 2007. In
addition he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State where he
studied Turfgrass Science. |
